Charlestown History Group
Join eastwood2eaves

We would like to invite you to join this emailing group, run by Charlestown history groups.

The group is for anyone who is interested in local history in the area around Eastwood, Charlestown, Eaves, Mytholm and Colden.

WHY SET UP A GROUP LIKE THIS?

We are a small group of people and it takes a lot of time to organise regular meetings, but we want people to be able to share finds, information sources and ideas. An emailing group will help us to do this. We will use the group to:

  • update interested people on new information published on the Charlestown web site (probably about every 6-8 weeks)
  • pass on individual requests for information (we get these from all over the world)
  • pass on information that people have uncovered
  • alert people to local history events (from other organisations as well as the Charlestown group)
  • invite people on trips to libraries/archives
  • alert us to problems with the website (mistakes, broken links etc)

We know that loads of people arenít on email, so this wonít mean that we will never hold local events!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Once you have joined the group, if you send an email with a query to the group email address, it will automatically go to all the group members. Similarly, if someone replies to your email, that reply will go to every group member.

IS IT SECURE?

This is a ëclosed groupí, hosted by Yahoo Groups. The security/anti spam mechanisms that are incorporated when you join the group should mean that there is no chance of peopleís email addresses being forwarded to anyone unless they choose to do so individually. If any problems do arise, the email group has a moderator who is a member of the Charlestown History Group.

HOW DO I JOIN?

Joining a Yahoo group takes a little time because of the security measures, but it is quite clear and you will get there! .We have set out the process below with some specifics, so you might want to print off this page for later reference.

Start off at the Yahoo Group sign in page You have to have a Yahoo ID word and most common names or words will have gone already. If this is the case, try putting in your street name or a local landmark.

Your password should be something that is easy for you to remember.

If you have printed off this page, record your answers to the security question here.

The Alternate email box is for your real email address.

Once through the Yahoo sign up page, you will go to the group page type in eastwood2eaves into the box, this will take you to our site details and clicking on the heading will take you to our page.

On this page, click the Join this Group button. Your details will be there, but under Message Delivery section decide on first or last option.
